Spirit Of Bike
Mobile Communication / 2001
The Competence Center Electronic Commerce (CCEC) supported the Spirit Of Bike project with it's knowledge in internet and mobile communications technology. Receiving GPS-coordinates from the bike we were able to draw the route of the bike in real time. (Picture: Track of the Power Run from Zurich to Biel.)

Introduction to Java3D
Optional Course / 2001
This is a programming oriented introduction to the Java API extension Java 3D. Java 3D is a full featured 3D-programming API providing the user good performance with a relatively simple API. The course is based on SUN's Java 3D Tutorial. Additional documentation, many links and examples can be found on the course homepage. Notice that this is only a small introduction in an optional course; There is a more thorough course in Computer Graphics by C. Schwab.

As a supplement of the course Neuronal Networks of W. Businger I presented a practical approach to genetic algorithms. The theory is illustrated with the example implementation of "The Travelling Salesman".

(Paper in German) Wearable Things that think - this subject is cause of many fancy projects e.g. at the MIT. We discuss some examples and in particular the technical background, applications, business-model and future possibilities of the famouse Swatch Access watch. 
Information Systems / 1999 (Paper in German; includes PPT-Presentation for download) Modern Identification systems should not rely on simple passwords. A possible work around are biometrical identifications. Besides, zero knowledge cryptology algorithms provide an even higher security and anonymity for the user. 
Marketing, E-Commerce / 1999 (Paper in German) Nicholas Negropontes chapter in "Being Digital" about "The DNA of information" points out some interesting ideas. The paper discusses what this DNA might be, how we notice or use the DNA of information and what future applications possibly are.

Die Seuche

(Paper in German) In-depth analysis of the novel "Die Seuche" of the Swiss author Lukas Hartmann. The book (the title translates to "The Epidemic") is about the relations of two main epidemics threatening mankind: The ancient plague and nowadays AIDS.
